Petruzzelli Theatre

Italy

Petruzzelli Theater in Bari, inaugurated in 1903, is Italy’s fourth most important theater and first in Europe for its seating capacity of 3,200 people.
In 1991, the theater was completely destroyed by arson. Reconstruction started in 2002, but was immediately halted and only continued in 2006, when the theater was expropriated.
For the consortium of companies that won the bid for the renovation work, it was not a simple task to remedy the damage caused by the fire and the first reconstruction attempt. Today, the theater has been completely renovated and was re-inaugurated in 2009.
Companies involved in this project also included MD Abrasivi, owned by Fila Master Treatement Specialist Diego Mizzi. He worked on about 2,400 m² of newly installed encaustic cement tile, the renovation of 300 meters of flooring in marble terrazzo dating back to the first renovation project and around 100 meters of early twentieth century encaustic cement tiles found in the foyer, the only area left partially untouched by the fire. This immensely prestigious project was rewarded third place in the “Trattati da Re" (Given the Royal Treatment) Fila National Competition 2008-2009 and helped to restore one of Puglia’s most valuable treasures.
